Easy Naan Recipe – Oven Baked Bread

I used to crave a lot for garma garam Tandoori naan which we used to get from the corner of the street. Whe living abroad you still can get it from restaurants not that easy and it cost arround €2 per Naan.

I bake naan at home with this awesome Naan recipe. Try it at home, you might find it bit difficult for the first time but the 2nd time is easy. Enjoy yummy home baked naan.

Ingredients

375 g (2½ cups) plain all purpose flour
60 ml (4 tbsp or /¼ cup) plain yoghurt
2 tbsp melted Desi ghee or butter
125 ml (4 fl oz/½ cup) lukewarm water
1 tsp yeast (1 packet)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
½ tsp baking soda
1 egg (optional)

Steps

Step 1
Add the yeast and sugar to the lukewarm water and leave it for 10 minutes. Sift the flour, salt and baking soda into a bowl.
Step 2
Add the flour mixture into the yeast mixture, then add butter, yoghurt and the egg.
Step 3
Mix the dough until its soft. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes.
Step 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover it with a clingfilm and let it stand in a warm place for 1-2 hours until the dough roughly doubles in size.
Step 5

Place the dough on a floured surface. Knead it for around 3-4 minutes. Split the dough into four pieces o 6 if you like smaller Naan. Roll the pieces into balls, place on a greased plate, cover and leave it for another 30 minutes.

Turn your grill (broiler) at 200C and place a baking tray underneath.
Step 7
Place a dough ball on a floured surface and use your hands to shape it your way. The thickness should be around ¼” (6 mm).
Step 8

Brush with melted ghee and sprinkle on some sesame seeds or kalonji seeds if you like.
Step 9
Place naan (the flat bread) on a hot tawa (Griddle) or a large frying pan for about 1 minute until it bubbles up.
Step 10

Transfer the naan to the hot baking tray and cook under the hot grill (broiler) for about 1 minute until the naan starts to turn brown.
Step 11

Brush the Naan with melted butter before serving.
